R.I.P. Patrick McGoohan

Honestly, I don't really care about the deaths of Michael Jackson, Ted Kennedy, and the rest of the more popular dead people this year.  I grieve over the loss of actor, Patrick McGoohan. Patrick McGoohan died on January 13, 2009 at the age of 80.  He was best known as Number 6 in the 60's British show, The Prisoner, but more recently he played King Edward Longshanks in Oscar winning Braveheart.  Before The Prisoner he starred in Danger Man (renamed Secret Agent Man in U.S.). I didn't discover The Prisoner t.v. series until the late 90's.  It was a friend that told me that I must watch The Prisoner series and after finding the series on DVD (it's on Netflix now), I immediately fell in love with the show and Patrick McGoohan's character.  I beg all of you to watch The Prisoner t.v. series and let me know what you think.

Patrick McGoohan as Number 6 in The Prisoner

Patrick McGoohan as Edward Longshanks in Braveheart
Here are a few quotes from The Prisoner:
  • “I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered! My life is my own.”
  • “A still tongue makes a happy life”
  • “Questions are a burden to others; answers a prison for oneself.”
  • “Unlike me, many of you have accepted the situation of your imprisonment and will die here like rotten cabbages.”
  • “You still have a choice. You can still salvage your right to be individuals. Your rights to truth and free thought! Reject this false world of Number Two . . . reject it NOW!!”
  • “He has revolted. Resisted. Fought. Held fast. Maintained. Destroyed resistance. Overcome coercion. The right to be a person, someone or individual. We applaud his private war, and concede that despite materialistic efforts, he has survived intact and secure!”
  • "Everybody votes for a dictator."
It will be awhile before I get over the loss of Patrick McGoohan.  I'll be watching The Prisoner t.v. series again very soon and will probably purchase the entire Danger Man series. You'll be missed Patrick McGoohan...R.I.P.

Gettysburg Trip

I had a lot of fun at Gettysburg yesterday with Sparklyglasses and her parents.  Her parents are visiting from Texas and we were trying to think of some things to do while they're here.  They leave tomorrow morning bright and early from PHL. We left the house around 11:30 a.m., after a few delays.  I was soooo hungry!!!  I purposely didn't eat anything because I wanted to eat at the Cashtown Inn.  The Cashtown Inn was declared haunted by the Ghost Hunters t.v. show on SyFy (I still think SyFy is a lame channel name) last year.  I ate there back in July and the food was outstanding!  We got there around 1:30 p.m. and guess what?  They're closed on Sundays.  :(  The Adams County Winery is very close to Cashtown Inn, so we decided to take a drive over and purchase their new blueberry wine.  Unfortunately, the blueberry wine is so popular that they sold out of it.  LOL, things weren't going as planned for sure.  I didn't want to leave empty handed, so I purchased a bottle of Adam's Apple and Rebel Red.  Yum yum. After the winery, I drove them to Sharpshooter's Grille.  I had never been to Sharpshooter's and I was pleasantly surprised by the hamburger I ordered.  The wait time for food to arrive seemed kind of long, but it was worth it.  The Land Shark lagers were pretty tasty too! After the food, we got some exercise by walking around the Pennsylvania Monument, The Angle, and Little Round Top on the battlefield.  Those of you who don't know, I proposed to Sparklyglasses at The Angle on 10 May 2009 and we were planning on getting married in Gettysburg up until recently when there was a change of date and location. One of these days I'm going to take a trip to Gettysburg and walk the battlefield like I did a few years ago.  There's a Boy Scout hiking guide that walks you through a 10 mile trail and 4 mile trail.  I loved it the last time I did it. Later today we'll probably go to a sushi place in Hershey.  I'm not a big fan of sushi at all, but I like their hibachi. ps. I'll be adding some pics from the trip to my Flickr in the next few days.  My Flickr

Civil War Quote

"That old man...had my division massacred at Gettysburg!" - George Pickett said these words to John S. Mosby shortly after paying Lee a visit in Richmond

Possible Gettysburg Journey

There's a chance that we (Sparklyglasses, her parents, and I) will be taking a trip to Gettysburg this afternoon.  I really hope we can go because I love it there.  While we're there, I'd like to go to the Adams County Winery and pickup some blueberry wine and eat lunch at the Cashtown Inn.  Wish me luck in trying to talk them into going!
