End of 2009 Golf Season
The ending to the 2009 golf season wasn't very pleasant. We lost by five strokes in the Championship match. The team we played was very good and I don't feel bad about losing to them. We were down by one stroke on the front 9 and it all came crashing down on the back nine.
I have a couple of things I want to practice and I'm looking forward to next season.
National Apple Harvest Festival Review
"The National Apple Harvest Festival, which is held during the first two weekends in October, has been celebrating beautiful crafts, great music and wonderful food for forty years. The festival has something for everyone with hundreds of arts and crafts dealers, demonstrations, contests, food stands, and entertainment."
That description is from the Festival's website at http://appleharvest.com. Sparklyglasses and I went to opening day today and I decided to share my thoughts.
The Festival is located near Gettysburg in Arendtsville, PA (GPS location is actually 615 Narrows Road, Biglerville, PA). We arrived at the parking location around 10:30 a.m. Luckily it wasn't raining because the parking is in a large grassy field. There were local yellow school buses waiting in the fields for our transportation to and from the Festival and I must say they were very efficient. I hadn't been in a school bus since middle school, so it was interesting to see that kids in the local area had assigned seats. The buses must have been elementary school buses though because the assigned seat signs were made by kids and I don't think high schoolers would subject themselves to assigned seats. LOL.
Cost of admission is $9 per person and it doesn't entitle you to any rides, etc. Mainly because there are no rides at the Festival. Well, I'm not sure if there were any kids rides at the petting zoo, but I'm guessing there weren't any because it's a PETTING ZOO! I brought $100 to spend and I went through it within a couple hours. There are a TON of food and crafts options. One item that got my attention was this wooden bird house. Check it out:
Old Man Bird House
The funniest thing I saw was the native american dance display. It was funny because it didn't appear that any of the dancers were actually native american! A couple of them looked like they were straight out of the People of Walmart site. Overall, I'd give my experience 3 out of 5 stars. If you REALLY want to eat, the $9 admission fee is well worth it. If you're a vegetarian or a person that doesn't like large slow crowds of people (like me), stay away.

We Won!
Here's a blog post from my Tumblr account that I hadn't transferred to WordPress until now. It's about my golf semifinal match last Tuesday night.
"We won our golf match last night. Which means we play for the championship Monday morning. I didn’t think we had much of a chance going into the match last night, but my ball striking was pretty consistent and I gained confidence as the match progressed."
Update: We play Monday at 0900 against a team that we tied during the regular season. This time we'll be playing 18 holes instead of 9 holes. On my way to the driving range...right...now.
iPhone App of the Week (28 Sep-4 Oct 09)
This is the first week of my "iPhone App of the Week" column. Each week I'll pick the app I think is the coolest app on my iPhone. If you've seen any of my tweets, you'll know I tweet A LOT! That being said, I'll try not to choose my favorite Twitter app, SimplyTweet, as the iPhone App of the Week.
iPhone App of the Week for 28 Sep-4 Oct 09 is Ping! app. I hadn't heard of Ping! until a few days ago and haven't used it much. I think it will become more popular through word of mouth. Basically, Ping! is a free text messaging app for iPhone users. All you need to do is create a username after you download the FREE app and start sending texts to others with the app on an iPhone. That last part is the trick. Not only does the person on the other end need to be using an iPhone, they need to have downloaded the Ping! app and created a username. I haven't searched any sites for other users, but doing a search for #ping on Twitter should help.
It's probably dumb to name an app the iPhone App of the Week that I've barely used, but the app has great potential for iPhone users and it's FREE!
My Ping! name is Mickle75
